KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (Aug. 5, 2012) -- Rome's win-streak wasn't built in a day, but the Kannapolis Intimidators ended the Brave's 13-game stretch with a dominant 9-1 win at CMC-NorthEast Stadium on Sunday evening. Intimidators pitchers limited Rome to just two hits while striking out 12 batters as Kannapolis snapped its own three-game losing skid.

Euclides Leyer dazzled over five innings in his Class A debut with Kannapolis, allowing a run on two hits while striking out seven and walking three. Leyer (1-0) earned his first win of 2012 after going 0-4 in seven starts with Advanced Rookie Bristol. Relievers Jason Van Skike and Dustin Umberger combined to work four perfect innings to prevent any attempt at a comeback.

Kannapolis scored the games first two runs on a wacky play that featured three throws to the plate and two errors. With runners on first and second and two outs in the first inning, Bill Rice's single ricocheted off the first base bag into right field. Joey DeMichele rounded third as a throw came home from right field, and DeMichele's slide knocked the ball free from Rome's catcher Ryan Query. Chris Curley followed down the third base line, and a throw back home sailed wide, from one on-deck circle to another. Rice, who never stopped running on the play, rounded third and headed home as Query tracked down the loose ball and threw to third baseman Brandon Drury who applied a tag on Rice at the plate to end the inning.

Chase Anselment put the Braves on the board with a solo home run (6) to centerfield in the top of the second inning to cut the lead, 2-1, but the Intimidators got the run back in the home half of the inning on a Joe De Pinto RBI-groundout.

Kannapolis added a pair of runs in the third inning to chase Rome starter David Filak from the game after 3.0 innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

The Intimidators added four runs off reliever Ronan Pacheco in the fourth inning for a 9-1 lead highlighted by a Joey DeMichele bases-clearing double.

Kannapolis and Rome play the third game of this four-game series on Sunday at CMC-NorthEast Stadium at 5:05 p.m. Sundays are Kid's Day presented by Zammitti Orthodontics with pre-game player autographs and post-game kids run the bases. All kids tickets on Sundays are $5. For ticket information, call the box office at (704) 932-3267 or visit www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com .
