Inter Miami in 2023 U.S. Open Cup
Inter Miami will make its sixth appearance in this year's edition of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in the historic final against Houston, marking the first time the team reaches the final of the competition. The team now just one win away from clinching the second official piece of silverware in Club history.
The Herons reached the final of the cup by defeating Miami FC on penalties on the road in the Third Round, knocking out Charleston Battery in the Round of 32 and Nashville SC in the Round of 16 in home games at DRV PNK Stadium, winning against Birmingham Legion FC in the quarterfinals, and, lastly, winning on the road in a thriller against FC Cincinnati in semifinals,
Team Leaders in Open Cup Play
Inter Miami attackers have been in charge of leading the team to the final in the competition. The team's top scorers have been Campana, with his brace against Cincinnati, and Nicolás Stefanelli, who bagged the winners in the matchups against Nashville and Birrmingham Legion, with two goals apiece. Distribution-wise, Messi and winger Corentin Jean lead the way with two assists each.
Inter Miami Form Leading Up to the Final
The team will enter the cup final in fine form, with Inter Miami unbeaten in 14 out of its last 15 games. Notably, the team is currently unbeaten in its past nine matches at DRV PNK Stadium across all competitions.
Open Cup Champions on Our Roster
Inter Miami currently has three former Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup winners on its roster in defender DeAndre Yedlin, who won it in 2014 with Seattle Sounders FC, midfielder Victor Ulloa, who helped FC Dallas clinch the title in 2016, and forward Josef Martínez, who won it in 2019 with Atlanta United.
Scouting Houston Dynamo FC
The Texas-based side will visit South Florida for the U.S. Open Cup final after most recently falling 2-1 on the road against Sporting Kansas City in MLS regular season action in the team's past match. In their run to the final of the competition, the Dynamo won 0-1 on the road against the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the Third Round, topped Sporting KC 1-0 in the Round of 32 and Minnesota United FC 4-0 in the Round of 16 in home games at Shell Energy Stadium, knocked out Chicago Fire in quarterfinals with a 1-4 win away from home, and clinched its place in the final with a 3-1 home win over Real Salt Lake in semifinals.
Attackers Corey Baird and Aliyu Ibrahim are the team leaders thus far in the competition with three goals each.
