Inland Empire 66ers News Release

San Bernardino, CA-A season high eight run outing for the Inland Empire 66ers (11-10) earned the team an 8-4 win and a series sweep of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (9-12). The bottom third of the order was in top form in the win Thursday, scoring six of the team's eight runs.

After dropping the home stand's first series to the San Jose Giants three games to one a winning home stand seemed unlikely for Inland Empire. But it as well as the sweep of Rancho Cucamonga was in play Thursday, and the 66ers bats rose to the occasion to claim it. The offensive onslaught began with a Zach Wright RBI double in the 2nd inning. The catcher's extra base hit came with two outs as did Joel Capote's triple just a couple pitches later to make it 2-0 66ers.

The Quakes would not be swept away quietly. They rallied for two runs in the 3rd and another in the 4th to take a slim lead off starter Eswarlin Jimenez. The lefty did not get a quality start but by keeping the Quakes to just those three runs during his five innings he did keep them in the game. The offense came back in the home half of the 4th when Andy Workman cashed in a Ryan Jones leadoff triple with an RBI bunt single. Workman would score four batters later on a bases loaded walk to give the 66ers a one run advantage.

Inland Empire put the game away the next inning when they recorded four runs on four hits off the Quakes bullpen. Workman, Wright and Andy Borenstein all scored that inning from the bottom of the order, two on Joel Capote's bases loaded two run single. After that it was just a matter of time till the 66ers reached the end to celebrate the sweep. A 9th inning solo home run aside, the 66ers bullpen was once again stellar on the way to the win.

The Inland Empire 66ers will now take aim at division leading Lancaster during a three game road trip to face the JetHawks. Game one of the series is Friday night starting at 7:00 PM and can be heard on the 66ers flagship station AM 1050 KCAA. The 66ers next home stand begins Tuesday, April 30th and it includes a Thirsty Thursday presented by Hangar 24, Thursday, May 2nd . That will also be College Night at San Manuel Stadium featuring a Vegas Trip Giveaway presented by the Tropicana Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.
