San Bernardino, CA -The Inland Empire 66ers completed a three-game sweep of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, picking up an 8-3 win in the final game of the set on Thursday night at San Manuel Stadium.
Joel Capote had two hits and drove in three runs, while Inland Empire scored a season-high eight runs, sending the Quakes to their season-worst fourth straight loss.
Quakes' starter Jarret Martin struggled and dropped his fourth straight start, as he allowed four runs on six hits, walking three men in just 3 1/3 innings.
Inland Empire jumped on Martin for a pair of runs in the second, as Zach Wright and Capote each drove in a run for a 2-0 lead.
The Quakes actually rallied to score the game's next three runs, taking a temporary 3-2 lead against Inland Empire starter and eventual winner Eswarlin Jimenez (1-2).. Darnell Sweeney's fourth triple of the year tied the game in the third, while Ryan Mount's RBI groundout plated O'Koyea Dickson for a 3-2 lead in the fourth.
The Sixers took the lead for good in the fourth, tallying a pair against Martin (0-4) to take a 4-3 advantage.
Inland Empire added four more in the fifth, taking a commanding 8-3 lead, as Capote highlighted the inning with a two-run single off of reliever Craig Stem.
The Quakes (9-12) will look to rebound at home on Friday, as they face the Lake Elsinore Storm in the opening game of a three-game set at LoanMart Field. Friday night is another Family RV $1 Family Feast, as fans can enjoy hot dogs, Pepsi products and ice cream sandwiches all for just $1 each.
Don't forget that Dodgers' superstar Hanley Ramirez is also expected to play in the three-game series against the Storm, as part of a rehab assignment!
