Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino split a double-header against the Lancaster JetHawks on Thursday dropping the opener 14-4 but bouncing back splendidly in the second with a 1-0 stymying. The shutout was the Sixers' first win since May 12th and the third time this year that the Inland Empire (19-26) staff had tossed a shutout.
Game one was all Lancaster as Carlos Herrera and Sean Bouchard each notched three-hit games for the JetHawks. Joel Diaz had three RBI while Bouchard and Luis Castro each had two; Castro drew three of the club's nine walks. Will Gaddis (W, 2-4) gave up four runs in five frames for the decision. Cooper Criswell took the loss for IE and fell to 0-4. Of note, Angels RHP Luis Garcia struck out the side in a perfect inning of relief for the Sixers on an MLB injury rehab assignment (back).
Game 2 was dominated by the pitchers as Oliver Ortega (W, 2-2) and Matt Dennis (L. 2-3) kept their respective opponents down for the first three frames. The Sixers got on the board in the fourth when Devin Davis tripled with one out. After an infield single put runners at first and third, Gleyvin Pineda smashed a double to left scoring Davis for a 1-0 advantage. That would mark the lone tally of the game. Ortega rolled into the sixth before being relieved by Brett Hanewich (SV,1). The righty hit the first batter he faced but with runners at second and third he punched out Bouchard to end the sixth. The righty from Stanford then struck out the side in order to finish off the blanking.
The 66ers pick up a suspended game Friday versus Stockton at 5:35 pm with the originally scheduled contest to follow. The contest can be seen and heard live at 66ers.com.
