Inland Empire Improves to 11-2 Against Rival Rancho

Inland Empire 66ers News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The domination continues, R.J. Alvarez and the Inland Empire 66ers (46-36, 9- 3) hung on for a 4-3 victory and improved to 11-2 on the season against the rival Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (33-49, 2-10).
Coming off their biggest offensive effort of the year Sunday in Lake Elsinore, the 66ers had enough forward momentum on offense to scratch out four runs Monday. The bulk of the offense came with team trailing 2-1 in the 4th on a three run homer from Gary Mitchell off the batters eye in center.
What really won the game was a series of base running mistakes by the Quakes. Rancho had three runners caught stealing, another picked off, one caught trying to stretch a double into a triple, and, most note worthy, a runner called out at home when a player not involved in the play interfered with 66ers catcher Abel Baker. Were it not for that multitude of mistakes the game could have been over after 8 innings in the Quakes favor.
Instead Inland Empire led entering the bottom of the 9th by two, and despite allowing a run and the bases to be loaded with one out R.J. Alvarez induced two fly balls to end the game and move the team to a season best 10 games above .500.
Inland Empire can win the series and improve to 12-2 on the year against the Quakes with a win Tuesday. The 66ers next home game will be the 4th of July featuring a showdown between the 66ers and division leading Lancaster, and a post game fireworks extravaganza.
