Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - Brandon Meredith hit a three-run homer to spark a JetHawks comeback against the Bakersfield Blaze on Monday at The Hangar. Lancaster erased a four-run deficit and won, 8-5.
Meredith's home run came in the fourth inning with Lancaster trailing 4-0. With two outs, Telvin Nash walked and Tyler Heineman was a hit by a pitch to set the stage for Meredith. The left fielder hit a 2-1 pitch from start Jon Moscot over the wall in centerfield to put the JetHawks on the board.
The Blaze added a run to extend their lead off Theron Geith in the fifth inning but tandem starter Brady Rodgers (6-5) entered the game in the sixth and shut the Blaze down the rest of the way.
Reliever Jimmy Moran walked Delino DeShields with one out in the seventh inning and with two left-handed hitters coming up, Bakersfield decided to go with left-handed reliever Sean Lucas. Lucas walked Fontana and Aplin doubled in DeShields to bring Lancaster within a run. M.P. Cokinos followed with a run-scoring grounder to tie the game and Telvin Nash blooped a single to right field to give the JetHawks the lead. Lucas (0-1) took the loss for the Blaze.
Lancaster added two more runs in the eighth inning. Chris Epps walked to start the inning against Pat Doyle and Carlos Perdomo doubled on a hit and run to put runners at second and third. Epps scored on a wild pitch and DeShields singled home Perdomo.
Rodgers shut the door in the ninth and finished with four scoreless innings. He allowed three hits, struck out two and didn't walk a batter.
Chris Devenski allowed four runs on eight hits in his start. Ryan Wright started the game with a solo homer against him and Juan Silva later added a two-run shot.
