Injury-Riddled Albany Devils Push Winning Streak to Three Games

November 28, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany Devils News Release

SPRINGFIELD, MA - As the injuries mount for the Albany Devils, so do the wins. The team lost forwards Joseph Blandisi and Blake Pietila during Wednesday's 3-1 victory and center Blake Coleman dislocated his shoulder during Friday's 4-0 shutout. The team ended up signing two players to professional tryout agreements just to fill the roster.

Regardless, the Devils (12-4-3-0) moved their winning streak to three games, defeating the Springfield Falcons, 4-3, Saturday at MassMutual Center. Paul Thompson netted the game-winning goal and Greg Wolfe, who signed a PTO less than 10 hours before the game, scored his first career AHL goal.

Corey Tropp found the back of the net for the second straight game and Reid Boucher also scored. Ryan Kujawinski added a pair of assists. In goal, Yann Danis registered his 11th win, which was his third consecutive and seventh in the last nine starts.

For just the fifth time this season, the Devils allowed the first goal. Springfield's Greg Carey scored on the power play at 8:13 of the first.

However, Albany had the advantage by the end of the period. Tropp scored from behind the net at 11:00 and Boucher scored all alone below the dots at 19:09 on the power play.

The Falcons tied the game on Domenic Monardo tally at 9:38 of the second, but Wolfe responded on a put-back try at 13:05.

In the third, Monardo scored again to tie the game at 3:12, but Thompson followed his own rebound for the winner at 8:22 - another power-play goal.

Both teams entered the game coming off back-to-back wins. Springfield netminder Nicklas Treutle had his shutout streak ended at 143:15. He finished with 33 stops.

Albany is back in action Wednesday with a 7 pm game against the St. John's IceCaps. The contest will be the first meeting between the two teams this season.
