Baltimore Blast News Release

Blast Signs Chantel, Hare:

Baltimore Blast General Manager Kevin Healey announced today that the Blast has signed forward Marcos Chantel to a five-game/15-day contract. Chantel, 6-2, 180-pounds, has been training with the Blast for the last several weeks. He joins fellow Brazilians Denison Cabral, Sagu and Adilson DeLima on the squad. The team announced yesterday that it also signed defender Jeff Hare to a five-game/15-day contract. Hare, a graduate of Princeton University, has been training with the Blast all season and will play for the team Saturday night in Cleveland.

Blast vs. Force, 2004-05:

Tonight is the first of eight matches between the Blast and the Force this season and the first game between the clubs in Cleveland. The Blast and Force will face off seven more times this season, with the Blast hosting the Force on April 22 for the team's last home game of the 2004-05 regular-season.

Knee Surgery Successful for Cabral and Garcia:

Blast forwards Denison Cabral and Carlos Garcia underwent successful knee surgery on Tuesday, November 23 at Union Memorial. Cabral, the team's all-time leading scorer, and Garcia, playing in his second season with the Blast, were both injured on November 12 when the Blast hosted the Milwaukee Wave. The Blast has placed Cabral on the MISL's 60-day/20-game Inactive-Injured List.

From 2-3 to the Championship:

With a 2-6 record the 2004-05 Blast know better things lie ahead. This is the third consecutive season that the Blast has started the year with a 2-3 record; the 2002-03 Championship squad started the year with a 2-7 record before turning things around to win the MISL Title. In each of the last two seasons, the Blast started 2-3 and went on to win the MISL Championship despite the slow start. The 2002-03 Blast had a 6-12 record at the midpoint of the season and went on to win eight of the last 11 games to turn the season around at the end. Last season the Blast started 2-3 then went on a six-game win streak and ended the regular season 25-11. The team is one game shy of matching the franchise's longest losing streak of six games (set three times, most recently during the 2002-03 season.)
