Blast Notes - Recent injuries have decimated the roster of the two-time defending MISL Champion Blast. On Wednesday, F Denison Cabral was placed on the 60-day/20-game Inactive-Injury List and FCarlos Garcia was placed on the Inactive-Injury List for the remainder of the season. Both had surgery last week. Head coach Tim Wittman, who last played professionally in 1994-95, recently signed a five-game playing contract. D Jeff Hare was signed on Tuesday, F Marcos Chantel on Wednesday. At 2-6 the Blast is in a familiar position however. It started the last two seasons 2-3 (2-7 in 2002-03) en route to capturing consecutive MISL Championships. Averaged 6.7 goals per game last year, are scoring 4.9 this year.

Storm Notes - After defeating the Wave, 8-7, on Nov. 26, Chicago moved into a tie for first-place in the Central - for two days. Storm slipped into third-place with an 8-7 defeat to St. Louis on Nov. 28. Awadalla Morad, Sandre Naumoski, Novi Marojevic, Jorge Valle, Chris Carrieri, and Matthew Stewart have each turned in multi-goal games. GK Danny Waltman, the MISL Goalkeeper of the Month for November, has a 5-2 record, and a 5.71 g.a.a. Storm is 4-1 when it scores first. Chicago has outscored opponents 14-6 in the second quarter and has been outscored 17-5 in the fourth quarter. Enter Saturday's game at Milwaukee with a 2-1 series record in what is already being called the "I-94 rivalry."

Comets Notes - Kansas City is preparing for games on back-to-back nights for the first time this season, as it will visit Cleveland on Friday and host Monterrey on Saturday. Comets hold a 19-17 all-time series advantage over Cleveland, but lost three of four games to the Force last season. Comets dropped their Kemper Arena home opener on Nov. 27, losing 7-6 to St. Louis with the deciding goal by Cal Thomas coming with eight seconds left in regulation. Losers of three in a row. Two-time MISL MVP Dino Delevski has five goals and three assists, and has registered at least one point in 40 consecutive games. Comets average an MISL-low 23.5 shots per game, and yield an MISL-high 7.3 goals.

Force Notes - Cleveland had not led at halftime through its first five games this season, but claimed an early 4-1 lead over Philadelphia on Nov. 26, and went on to win 6-3. Force has been outscored 14-9 in the first half, and has outscored opponents 28-18 after the break. Lead the MISL with a 33.3 shots-per-game average. D John Ball is MISL's only defender that tops his team in points (shares team-lead with Antonio Sutton, eight). On Wednesday, Force announced signing of Eduardo "El Tanque" Hurtado, a target player, and former Major League Soccer All-Star. Otto Orf will serve as Force's interim head coach on Friday as head coach Omid Namazi completes a two-game suspension.

Wave Notes - Wave has a +12 goal differential, and averages 7.1 g.p.g. Both figures lead the MISL. MF Marcelo Fontana had his game-winning goals streak snapped at three with the Wave's, 8-7, defeat to Chicago on Nov. 26. GK Nick Vorberg (4.66 g.a.a.) is 5-1. Wave is 5-2, after opening 2003-04 by winning seven of eight games in Oct. and Nov. Defending MISL MVP and Spalding Scoring Champ, F Greg Howes, has six goals and two assists on a team-high 29 shots in five games. F Todd Dusosky, Fontana, Howes and F Giuliano Oliviero are each averaging at least 1.5 points-per game. This weekend the Wave is facing Chicago for the fourth time (1-2), and St. Louis for the first time. Wave won series with STL, 6-0, in 2003-04.
Monterrey Tigres 2004-05 Record: 0-4 2004-05 Leader: Marco "Chikis" Lopez (5G, 2A). (Expansion Club for 2004-05)
Tigres Notes -Monterrey seeks its first win on Dec. 3 in Chicago. Tigres gave Wave and KiXX all they could handle in their most recent games on Nov. 19 and Nov. 20, but couldn't capture a victory, falling 8-7 in OT and 6-5, respectively. D Genoni Martinez is the MISL's two-time defending Defender of the Year, who finished second in the MISL in points last season, but hasn't scored a goal this season (two assists) on 25 shots. F Marco "Chikis" Lopez had a four-goal game on Nov. 19. Tigres have scored 63 percent of their goals in the first and third quarters, and have trailed at halftime in three of four games. Make their first trip to Chicago on Friday when the Storm will host "Hispanic Heritage Night" at the UIC Pavilion.

KiXX Notes - Philadelphia was without regulars Pat Morris, John Barry Nusum, Joel Shanker in a 6-3 loss to Cleveland on Nov. 26. Eastern Division leaders look to rebound this weekend when they host San Diego on Friday and visit St. Louis on Sunday. KiXX won season's first meeting with Sockers at the Wachovia Spectrum, 4-2, on Nov. 13. This will be Philadelphia's first game against the Steamers. However the two teams split the series 2-2 in 2003-04. F Goran Vasic has at least one point in seven consecutive games. Philadelphia totaled 25 goals in its first three games, 17 in its last four. Defensively, Philadelphia has surrendered seven restart goals, tops in the MISL. GK Peter Pappas is 3-1 with a 4.32 g.a.a.

Steamers Notes - The hottest team in the MISL is fresh off of a 6-1 month of November, that it used to climb into first-place in the MISL Central. Player-coach Daryl Doran leads the Steamers and the MISL with 17 points (eight goals and nine assists). Three more St. Louis players - F Mike Apple, F Joe Reiniger, and MF Sterling Wescott - join Doran in the top-9 in the MISL in scoring. Special teams have been a strength for the Steamers. Power play (63.9 percent) ranks third in the MISL, and the penalty killing unit (69.2 percent) ranks second. Have outscored opponents 16-7 in the third quarter. Co-owners Wally Smerconish and Michael Hetelson have begun production on a reality television show that focuses on the team.
San Diego Sockers sockers.com 2004-05 Record: 3-5 2004-05 Leader: Mark Ughy (10G, 3A) 2003-04 Record: 13-23, 2nd in Western Division 2004 Championship Series: Did not qualify 2003-04 Leader: Paul Wright (21G, 28A)
Sockers Notes - San Diego played four games in Oct., winning two, and completed Nov. with a 1-3 record. Sockers have scored the first goal in seven of eight games this season. Target Mark Ughy leads the MISL in goals (10) and is tied for second-place in points (13). D Sean Bowers has 12 blocks. San Diego yields the fewest shots in the MISL (22.8 per game) and features the second-best power play unit (81.8 percent). Sockers visit Philadelphia for the second time this season on Friday. San Diego lost the first meeting (Nov. 14), with Ughy and Matt Johnson scoring the Sockers' goals. The KiXX lead the all-time series 6-3, and have never lost to the Sockers at the Wachovia Spectrum in Philadelphia (5-0).

- Through 30 games in 2004-05, 348 goals have been scored, an average of 11.6 per game. The average for the 2003-04 season was 11.3.
