Kansas City Comets News Release

The Comets (1-3) look to bounce back from Saturday's loss to the St. Louis Steamers with solid play in back-to-back matches this weekend. First, the Comets visit the Cleveland Force on Friday, Dec. 3 at the Cleveland State University Convo. Kickoff is at 6:35 p.m. CST. Then, the Comets return to Kansas City to enjoy home-field advantage against the Monterrey Tigres on Saturday, Dec. 4. It will be the Comets' first meeting with both teams this season.

The Cleveland Force is currently 3-3 in second place in the Eastern Division. The Force is coming off of a 6-3 win over the Eastern Division leading Philadelphia KiXX and is riding a two-game winning streak. The game can be heard live on www.thesportsking.com. The Force has historically been a tough opponent for the Comets. The Comets hold a slight advantage (19-17) in the all-time record versus the Force, but Cleveland held the advantage last season, winning three out of the four meetings.

The Monterrey Tigres (0-4) visit Kemper Arena for the first time ever on Saturday night for a Western Division showdown. The Comets look for a win to build on their one-game advantage over the Tigres, the MISL's newest franchise. Kickoff at Kemper Arena is at 7:35 p.m.

THE WEEK THAT WAS:

The Comets suffered a last-second loss to the St. Louis Steamers in their 2004-05 home opener at Kemper Arena on Saturday night.

St. Louis Steamers, 7, at Comets, 6 (Saturday, Nov. 27)

The Comets held tight through the first three quarters with goals from Casey Barton and rookies Jonny Steele and Drew Perkins and even lead briefly (5-4) in the fourth quarter after two goals by Dino Delevski. The Steamers then snatched the lead back, only to see the game equalized again by Casey Stevens at 12:26 in the fourth quarter (6-6).

But, the Comets hopes for overtime were dashed as St. Louis' Cal Thomas scored the game-winning goal with just eight seconds remaining in the game. Former Comet Nate Houser assisted on the play as the Steamers defeated the Comets

7-6.

Dino Delevski and Casey Stevens led all Comets with two points each. Rookie Eric Pankoke notched four blocks for a new personal single-game record. With the goals, Delevski upped his points-scoring streak to 40 games.

U.S. FUTSAL TEAM ELIMINATED FROM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS:

The United States was eliminated from the FIFA Futsal World Championship Chinese Taipei 2004 with a 3-1 loss to Ukraine on Sunday night. The U.S. National Futsal Team includes Comets forward Jamar Beasley, who has appeared in all but one of the tournament's five games so far.

The team closes out group play on Wednesday, Dec. 1 with a match against Brazil.
