Indy Hushes Hens on 10th Anniversary

August 27, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release

After earning their season best fifth straight victory against the first place Columbus Clippers on a sold out crowd Friday night, the Hens welcomed the Indianapolis Indians to Fifth Third Field looking to make it six in a row. The evening was a special one for the Toledo organization as their 2006 IL Governor's Cup Championship was commemorated with a Don Kelly bobble head for the Hens' fans. Taking the ball for the red-hot club was Buck Farmer coming off a start against the Louisville Bats in which he threw six strong frames earning a victory.

Farmer's counterpart in the opposing dugout Saturday night was highly touted prospect Tyler Glasnow, who was making a rehab start after suffering an arm injury with the Altoona Curve on August 15th. Farmer cruised through the first three innings, striking out four over that span. The right-hander ran into a bit of turbulence in the 4th however, yielding a deep one out double to Jose Osuna followed by a two bagger from Jason Rogers. The back-to-back doubles brought home the game's first run as Indy took a 1-0 lead into the fifth.

The Hens offense threatened to score on multiple occasions throughout Glasnow's three innings of rehab work but the tall right-hander escaped the jams, striking out three. The Hens lineup was able to muster up just five hits against the Indy pitching staff as three of the five were of the two base variety.

Farmer put together another quality outing after his blemish in the fourth, but exited after six innings allowing the lone run while striking out seven. The seven punch-outs puts Farmer's season total at 93 which leads the Toledo pitching staff. Chad Bell came on in Farmer's relief throwing 1 2/3 innings, allowing just one run while striking out three. The second Indy run was plated on a solo home run off the bat Gift Ngoepe as that was all the Indians needed to secure the victory.

The Hens longest winning streak of the season was snapped, but the two teams battle it out in game two of the series on Sunday. Donn Roach takes his 2-0 Toledo record to the mound as first pitch is set for 6:05 PM.
