THE FUEL REVIEW: Tangling with a pair of foes from their own Western Conference Central Division, the Indy Fuel could find the back of the opponents' net a mere one time in bowing at Fort Wayne to the Komets on Friday night, 4-0 before returning home to the Indiana Farmers Coliseum Saturday night where they sustained a hard-luck, 4-1 setback to the Quad City Mallards. In each weekend outcome, the third period was Indy's unfortunate fate as both the Komets and the Mallards engineered 3-goal final frame flurries to shatter otherwise tight taut-fraught affairs in cementing their respective successes. Center Kevin Lynch (2) (PPG) accounted for his club's sole goal for the weekend as he dramatically delivered a late second stanza strike Saturday night at the 19:52 mark to equalize matters at 1-1. In Saturday night's contest against the "Greenheads," the Fuel rained a 40-shots' barrage with a season's best 18 generated in the third period. The 40-SOG represented Indy's second best output of the early season warfare. In summary of the weekend results, the Fuel have garnered only one triumph in their last 7-decisions at Fort Wayne while the Quad City triumph Saturday night was its first-ever at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
NORTH TO ALASKA: On tap for the men of Fuel this week is a three-games' foreign ice expedition to Anchorage, Alaska where the hometown team tangles with the Alaska Aces. The two inter-divisional combatants will battle on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights at Sullivan Arena with game time for each contest set for 11:15 pm EST. All three games will be broadcast live on the Fuel's exclusive radio flagship home of CBS Sports 1430 with Terry Ficorelli, beginning with the Morellis Cleaners Pre-Game Show at 11:00 pm EST.
HAIL & HEARTY HOME: Once the Fuel return from their long Alaskan journey, their schedule becomes quite favorable as seven of their next eight games will be at the friendly climes and environs of home ice and Indiana Farmers Coliseum. Next home appearance for Indy's finest Fuel on ice will be Friday, November 18th when they lock antlers with the 2016 ECHL Kelly Cup runners-up, the Wheeling Nailers. There will be a special starting time for this game at 8:05 pm. It will be the opening game of a 4-game home stand in a compact-like fashion of 6-days for the Fuel with Atlanta here on the weekend of November 19th and 20th, followed by division rival Kalamazoo on Wednesday, November 23rd.
UPCOMING PROMOTIONS: As is always the case, the Fuel organization is presenting some premium, prime-time promotions upon the return of the hockey club from far away. November 18th has been designated as Faith & Family Night. All Church groups are invited for a special night of fellowship and exciting, electrifying Fuel hockey action. There will be a free pre-game concert and Fuel players and staff will lead a post-game devotion. November 19th will be Service Night as we pay homage to all service men and women that keep our community safe. Show your service ID and receive a commemorative puck. November 20th will be the first Family Fun Day of the season. In the initial Sunday matinee game of the season, the whole family can enjoy a post-game skate with the Fuel team.
THE BROADCAST SIMULCAST: All during this 2016-17 ECHL season, the Fuel, in concert with WTHR-TV 13/COZI-TV, televise all 23 Fuel Friday night and Saturday night home games in simulcast mode with radio flagship home CBS Sports 1430. Next TV/Radio simulcast is on the docket for Friday, November 18th when the Fuel collide with the Wheeling Nailers. This game will have a special starting time of 8:05 pm as Terry Ficorelli is joined by Bob Kravitz and Talor Whitaker.
LYNCH/LEVINE DIVINE: This week, the Fuel have nominated center Kevin Lynch for Sher-Wood/ECHL Player of the Week and Eric Levine for CCM/ECHL Goaltender of the Week. Lynch, the fourth-year pro from the U. of Michigan, delivered his team's lone goal of the weekend. It was a PPG/GTG along with a team-best 6-SOG in the Indy 4-1 loss Saturday night on home ice against Quad City. Lynch was named the game's #3 Star as presented by Church Brothers Collision Repair. Both of his goals thus far this season have been stoked in each of his club's last 2-home games with both coming in the second period of the GTG variety. As for Levine, the fourth-year pro from Robert Morris U., earned his first back-to-back starts of the season, allotting 6-GA for a 3.00 GAA and .917 SPCT as he rebuffed 66 of 72-shots over those two starts.
ROSTER READING: With the Fuel Alaska-bound this week, the latest roster returns show that defenseman Zach Miskovic and left wing Paxton Leroux remain on the injured list. Making his Indy debut the past Saturday night was fleet right wing Evan Mosey. The fourth- year pro from the Chicago suburb of Downers Grove, Illinois, was assigned by AHL Rockford where he saw action in 3-games for the IceHogs. The former collegiate standout at Minnesota State-Mankato is making his North America premiere this season after launching his pro career overseas the past three seasons in the Netherlands and Great Britain.
TOP TEAM TOTALS: Through the first 8-games of the 2016-17 season, the Fuel premiere point parade includes: 1- Alex Wideman 8(3-3-6); 2- Kevin Lynch 8(2-4-6); 3- Tyler Currier 8(3-2-5); 4- Marek Tvrdon 8(3-1-4); 5- Nick Mattson 8(0-4-4); 6- Jonathan Carlsson 8(0-3-3); 7- Patrick D'Amico 8(2-0-2); 8- Anthony Beauregard 7(1-1-2); 9-Matt Stanisz 8(1-1-2).
UNEVEN STRENGTH STRONG: The Fuel special teams continue to shine through the first 8-games of the young season. The power play has experienced redemption in making connection on 3 of its last 7-advantages for a proficiency rating of a strong and stellar 42.9%. Marek Tvrdon (2) and Kevin Lynch (1) have been the power play marksmen. Meanwhile, the penalty-killing cast continues its thrifty and nifty performance which has been prominent and dominant since the inception of the season. Overall, Indy has not permitted a PPGA in 6 of its first 8-outings of the current campaign. For the season, they are an excellent 23-26 for an efficiency rating of a superlative 88.5%. The opposition is only 1 for the last 14, a rating of a sterling 92.9%.
SCORING BY PERIODS: Through the first 8-games of the season, the Fuel's pre-eminent period has been the initial stanza, outscoring the opponents, 7-6. However, the latter two stanzas have been less-than ideal, having been out-goaled, 21-9 and 13-5 in that fateful final frame; 8-1 abroad.
FUEL FACTS: In the last 4-games, the Fuel have fired 150-SOG for a per game average of an impressive 37.5. Indy has registered 40 or more SOG in 2 of its last 3-games. The Fuel are 4(1-2-1) in 1-goal decisions; 3(0-2-1) in the latter trio of such affairs. The Fuel are 4(0-4-0) within their own Central Division, being outscored, 17-4. The Fuel have scored 3 or more goals in 2 of their first 8-starts this season. Indy is 4(1-3-0) on foreign ice, being out-goaled, 13-4; 12-2 in dropping their last 3-abroad. In Saturday night's bout with Quad City, Alex Wideman and Kevin Lynch matched a single game best as both authored 6-SOG. The Fuel sport a winning record in games outside their own division at 4(2-1-1). The opposition has scored the game's FG in each of the Fuel's last 6-games, mirroring the club's current winless spell.
