Indy Eleven to Host Open Tryouts this Weekend at Grand Park
January 8, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Indy Eleven News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - For a second straight year, Indy Eleven will host a two-day open tryout for players seeking to further their careers with Indiana's Team and other professional outfits. This year's tryout will take place at the Grand Park Event Center in Westfield (19000 Grand Park Blvd.) this Saturday and Sunday (January 11-12) from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Members of the Indy Eleven Technical Staff, including Head Coach Martin Rennie, will scout the more than 100 hopefuls expected to take part in the tryouts. In addition, representatives from South Bend Lions FC (USL League Two), Fort Wayne Football Club (NPSL), Detroit City FC (NISA), and Mississippi Brilla FC (USL League Two) will be on hand evaluating players to potentially add to their 2020 rosters.
"Indy Eleven takes pride in having a history of finding productive players through these open tryouts," said Rennie. "These sessions are growing every year, and with several other teams also sending scouts this weekend, this is an invaluable opportunity for highly-skilled players to get on a club's radar."
Last year's Indy Eleven tryout saw multiple players make the roster of professional and semi-professional clubs, including forward Alioune Diakhate, who was one of several players invited to Indy Eleven's preseason camp. The Senegalese striker eventually signed a contract with Indiana's Team and scored one goal across his 15 appearances (five starts) in USL Championship action in 2019. Another success story for Indiana's Team was midfielder Don Smart, who registered more than 100 appearances for Indy Eleven from 2014-17 after taking part in the club's initial round of tryouts in 2013.
Registration for this weekend's tryouts will cost $175 for the two-day session, which includes 9v9 and full 11v11 evaluation opportunities. Full details and a link to the online registration form can be found at indyeleven.com/opentryout2020.
Indy Eleven will begin its seventh season of play, and third season in the USL Championship, this March. Indiana's Team will open up its 2020 home schedule at Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday, April 4, in an Eastern Conference Final rematch against Lou City FC. Through this Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., fans can purchase discounted $20.20 Endline Section seats for the "Louisville-Indianapolis Proximity Association Football Contest" home opener at indyeleven.com/tickets. The only other way to secure seats for the LIPAFC clash for the time being is via a 2020 Season Ticket package, details for which can be found at indyeleven.com/season-tickets.
