Game Four | Finding Our Footing
Indy Eleven will face newly formed USL League One side Lansing Ignite FC in the fourth game of the preseason. The Boys in Blue hold a 1W-1D-1L record through three games as Indy Eleven Head Coach Martin Rennie and his side continue to work towards regular-season form.
Indiana's Team looks to bounce back after the team's first preseason loss against USL League One side Forward Madison FC. Indy Eleven goalkeeper Evan Newton was able to make his debut between the sticks for Indy, but fell just short of a clean sheet due to a 55th minute goal from Madison's Zaire Bartley. The match was the first played on the road during the 2019 preseason and finished 1-0 in favor of the Flamingos.
Rennie isn't too worried about the preseason loss, emphasizing post-match that the preseason remains about finding your fitness and correcting the little things.
"...I think in preseason it's good to have a game like that because now you can say 'we can nail the point because we're disappointed with how it worked out' and I think people learn a little bit quicker when that happens," Rennie said.
Lansing Ignite will look to mimic Madison's performance as they attempt to play giant killer in what will be their first ever competitive match. The Michigan based side's USL League One debut comes after owners of the Lansing Lugnuts, a local minor league baseball team, proposed plans to bring a professional soccer team to Cooley Law School Stadium.
Lansing Ignite General Manager Jeremy Sampson appointed Nate Miller, who coached Lansing United and Spring Arbor University, as Head Coach ahead of the club's inaugural 2019 season. Miller's side will feature former Indy Eleven midfielder Nathan Lewis. The Trinidad and Tobago international featured as a pacey outside midfielder during his time with Indiana's Team. Twenty-eight year-old Lewis brings a wealth of international experience to the side, earning 18 caps and scoring two goals for his country. He appeared under Rennie 11 times during 2018 with Indy Eleven.
The Boys in Blue will kick off against Lansing Ignite on Wednesday, February 27 at 2:00 p.m. EST at Grand Park Events Center in Westfield, Ind. The match, which will be played indoors, is a non-ticketed event and is open to the public.
