Nashville SC News Release

NASHVILLE - It's the final week of preseason for Nashville Soccer Club, and for the first and only time during the preseason, Nashville SC will experience a two-game week. That week will start with a preseason exhibition against Lipscomb on Wednesday night on the south Nashville campus. It will be the second consecutive season for NSC to take on the best collegiate soccer team in the city after winning last year 2-0.

Lipscomb Breakdown

While the Bisons are a college team, they were one of the best teams in the nation last season. Lipscomb made its second straight NCAA Tournament following an ASUN Conference regular season and tournament championship. The Bisons then went on the road and beat Washington and Central Florida to advance to the university's first NCAA Sweet 16 in any team sport. Eventually Lipscomb fell to No. 3 Kentucky in the Sweet 16, but the Bisons' run was one of the more magical ones in the 2018 College Cup.

Nashville Notes

Last year when these two teams met, it was an opportunity for reserve players and trialists to take the field for Nashville SC. While forwards Ropapa Mensah and Alan Winn, midfielder Bolu Akinyode and defender Taylor Washington were on the field that day, most of the other players on the field would go on to play precious few minutes for Nashville.

This year's matchup could be very different from a Nashville SC perspective. NSC's roster is much deeper this season, but isn't as large with the club carrying just 23 rostered players with only one trialist. That fact, mixed with one fewer preseason game this season than last, could lead head coach Gary Smith to feature a much stronger lineup this time around.

Coach's Corner

Head Coach Gary Smith

"I think every team in preseason that plays an amateur side, a local college of university, run into the same problem and that is a lot of young, exuberant, energetic individuals that want to impress. The way that they play, the structure of their groups are normally a far throw from what we will see come the first day of the season. It's a completely different challenge. We have to focus on how we can continually improve. We'd love to try and layer in to the performance tonight. We hope our players take a step closer to where they need to be on March 9th."

How to Follow

Tickets are still available for $10 for adults and $5 for children to see Nashville SC for the final time in the Music City during preseason at lipscombsports.com/tickets. Fans can also follow along on social media @Nashville SC for updates throughout the game.
