Indians 2B Jason Kipnis to Rehab at Coca-Cola Park

Allentown, Pa.- Indians 2B Jason Kipnis - sidelined since Spring Training with right shoulder inflammation -- is scheduled to continue a rehab assignment with the Columbus Clippers as they take on the IronPigs at Coca-Cola Park for a three-game series that begins Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network is the exclusive sponsor of all Major League rehabilitation appearances at Coca-Cola Park.

Kipnis, 30, has appeared in five games between Double-A and Triple-A during his current rehab stint, batting 3-for-13 with a double and an RBI.

Kipnis played in a career-high 156 games last year, hitting .275 with 23 home runs and 82 RBIs for the American League champions. He logged 41 doubles, tied for the most among AL second baseman with Jose Altuve (HOU). He also appeared in all seven World Series games against the eventual champion Chicago Cubs and batted .290 (9-for-31) with a pair of homers and 4 RBIs.

The Northbrook, Ill., native is a two-time All-Star, most recently in 2015 after hitting .303 and establishing career-highs in hits, doubles, triples, average and on-base percentage. His .823 OPS since 2015 is the best mark by any second baseman in the Majors over that period.

Kipnis was selected by the Indians in the 2nd round (63rd overall) of the 2009 draft out of Arizona State University. He quickly climbed through the Minor Leagues, reaching the Indians for the first time in 2011 - the same year that Baseball America ranked him as the top prospect in the organization. In parts of six seasons with Cleveland he's hit .272 with 76 homers and 354 games in 763 games played.
