St. Paul Saints News Release
TROIS-RIVIERS, QC (May 30, 2013) - The St. Paul Saints hadn't swept a road double header since 2007. They have now done it twice in back-to-back roadtrips as the finished off the double header sweep of Trois-Rivieres Aigles winning game two 2-1 at Stade Fernand-Bedard on Thursday night.
For the second straight game the Saints got phenomenal starting pitching, this time from Anthony Claggett. He didn't allow a hit in the first two innings and then gave up a lead-off double in the third. Just like Luke Anderson in game one, Claggett made the pitches when he had too. Claggett got Charles Neil to hit a tapper in front of the plate for the first out and then retired David Cooper on a ground out to short and Jeremy Nowak on a fly out to center.
With the Saints leading 1-0 in the fifth les Aigles finally got to Claggett. Brett Flowers led off with a double and with two outs, and Flowers still at second, Neil doubled him home tying the game at one. Claggett would go 6.0 innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out three and improved to 3-0 on the season.
The Saints answered right back in the sixth when Adam Frost led off with a walk. Dan Kaczrowski sacrificed him to second and Brad Boyer doubled him home.
In the bottom of the seventh Mikey Mehlich closed it out. He got the first two outs of the inning before giving up a double to Cam Kneeland, but struck out Neil looking to end the game to pick up his first save of the season.
The Saints got their first run of the game in the first when Frost led off the game with a single. Kaczrowski then hit a grounder to short, but Kneeland's throw went into right field allowing Frost to go to third. Boyer's double play ground out scored Frost to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.
The Saints now head to Stade de Municipal to take on the Quebec les Capitales in a three game series beginning Friday night at 7:05 p.m. eastern. The Saints send LHP Cole Nelson (0-0, 0.93) to the mound against les Capitales RHP Karl Gelinas (1-0, 0.00). The game can be heard on Club 1220 AM.
