
Wild Win for Wingnuts on Long Night

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts (8-5) defeated the Amarillo Sox (4-9) 7-6 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Wednesday night.
Trailing 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Wingnuts scratched out two runs to win their third game in a row. Cole Armstrong drew a pinch-hit walk with one out. After Colt Loehrs pinch-ran for Armstrong, Jared McDonald singled to right field to put the tying and winning runs on base. Ryan Khoury worked a full count and was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jake Kahaulelio tied the game on an infield single to second base that scored Loehrs and kept the bases full with one down. John Rodriguez drove in the winning run with a sacrifice fly to left field that scored McDonald.
Amarillo had overcome a 5-1 deficit to take their one-run advantage. With Trey Ford on first and one out in the top of the fifth, K.C. Serna singled to center field. Ford scored and Serna went to third when the ball bounced to the fence. Chris Valencia's sacrifice fly to left scored Serna and cut the Wingnuts' lead to 5-3.
Brandon Jones grounded an RBI double down the left field line in the top of the sixth to make it 5-4, while Joe Weik tied the game with a two-out, bloop single to right in the top of the seventh.
Jason Martin made it 6-5 Amarillo with a two-out, line drive single to left in the eighth.
Josh Dew earned the win for the Wingnuts with a perfect top of the ninth. Dew retired the side on just nine pitches.
Josh Giles took the loss for Amarillo, allowing two earned runs on one hit in one and one-third innings.
With two outs and no one on base in the bottom of the second, Stephen Yoo hit a ground rule double to left-center field. After David Amberson walked, McDonald ripped a triple into the right field corner that scored both runners to give the Wingnuts a 2-0 lead.
Rodriguez made it 3-0 Wichita in the bottom of the third with a line drive home run just to the left of the batter's eye in center field. It was Rodriguez's fourth home run in five games.
The Sox cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the fourth when David Peralta and Chris Grossman hit back-to-back doubles with two outs.
The game was delayed for two hours and two minutes heading into the bottom of the fourth due to rain. Upon returning from the delay, the Wingnuts added two runs on a McDonald RBI single and a balk committed by Sox' pitcher Kristhiam Linares.
Ryan Hinson started for the Wingnuts and allowed one earned run on two hits in four innings while taking a no-decision. Hinson struck out four and did not issue a walk.
Jason Mitchell took a no-decision in the start for Amarillo. Mitchell allowed three earned runs on four hits in three innings. Mitchell walked one and struck out three.
McDonald was 4 for 4 with three RBI. Rodriguez had two hits and extended his hitting streak to nine games in a row.
Linares was traded by the Wingnuts to Amarillo prior to the game in exchange for a player to be named later.
