LOS ANGELES, California - With the 19th pick of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, the Montreal Impact selected forward Nick DePuy, from the University of California Santa Barbara, Friday, at the Los Angeles Convention Center. With its second round pick, 41st overall, the Impact selected Canadian midfielder and Generation Adidas Canada member Shamit Shome.

"We are happy with our two picks, both of whom play in different positions on the field," declared Montreal Impact technical director, Adam Braz. "It is always a difficult process, as anything can happen during the draft, so we have to be well prepared. We are satisfied with our day."

"With his physical characteristics, Nick has a profile we did not have with our current forwards. He is a player who has had success in his college career," mentioned head coach Mauro Biello. "On Shomit's side, he is a player who already has a certain amount of experience in second division and he has a lot of technical quality in midfield and should integrate well in our system."

DePuy (DE-PUIS), 22, and originally from Irvine, California, scored 31 goals in four seasons with the University of California Santa Barbara, playing 83 games, including 80 starts. In 2015, he was an NSCAA First Team All-American and a Semi-finalist for the MAC-Hermann Trophy, awarded to the top male college soccer player. He was named three times a First Team All-Big West Conference, between 2014 and 2016.

Shome (CHOM), 19, made his professional debut with FC Edmonton in the NASL in 2016, playing 26 regular season games, including 18 starts, and 1,654 minutes. A product of the FC Edmonton Academy, he also started one NASL Playoffs game and one Amway Canadian Championship last season.

At the international level, he was nominated for Canada Soccer U20 Player of the Year in 2016. He has played four games with the Canada U20 national team and also represented the U18 team in the past. He was called last Wednesday for a U20 camp, from January 12 to 22, in Toronto and Panama.
