ST. PETERSBURG, Florida - The Montreal Impact's training camp will come to an end when they face New York City FC on the last day of the Rowdies Suncoast Invitational, this Saturday at 5pm at Al Lang Stadium. The game will again be broadcast live on impactmontreal.com
"There are nine days left before the real season starts," said midfielder Nacho Piatti. "I cannot wait for it to start, and I think we are all ready for the season to begin. We had a good test against Chicago on Wednesday and against Philadelphia, who had almost of its starters in the line-up. Tomorrow will be an important game to see how far we have come as a team."
Last preseason game before the start of the MLS season
The Bleu-blanc-noir can already see its first official game of 2018 on the horizon, but before the team travels to Vancouver, NYCFC stands in its way. The Impact would like to finish its preseason on a positive note, rekindling its defense solidarity acquired in its first three preseason games, in which they conceded just two goals, before losing to the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday night.
"Training camp was very hard," said center back VÃctor Cabrera. "It's great to work that hard, because it allows us to be in season form as of now. As we know, games can be decided at the very end, we need to run a lot and stay organized. It's good that we had such a strong preseason because it'll help us reach higher goals."
The game will serve as a reunion for both team's head coaches, but also as a first confrontation between Rémi Garde and Patrick Vieira, who were both players under the tutelage of the great Arsène Wenger at Arsenal.
New York City FC still looking for first win
The Citizens are also putting an end to preseason preparations with their fourth friendly game, on Saturday. Until now, the Bronx representatives have managed a draw and just one goal, against LAFC, losing 3-0 to the LA Galaxy and Atlético San Luis.
Upcoming games
The Impact will kick off its season with two games on the road, in Vancouver on March 4 and Columbus on March 10, before playing its home opener at Olympic Stadium on Saturday, March 17, at 3pm, against its biggest rival, Toronto FC.
