Impact Faces DC United Wednesday in Washington

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Montreal Impact (1-5-1) travels to Washington to face D.C. United (2-2-2) on Wednesday at 7:30pm (ET), at RFK Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on TVA Sports.

This will be the Impact's eighth game of the season, sixth away from home, while D.C. is undefeated in its last four games and will kick off a three-game home stand.

The Impact's last game ended in a 2-1 defeat to FC Dallas in Texas, where forward Bernardo Corradi scored his first career goal in MLS.

D.C. is coming off of a 2-1 victory against the New England Revolution last weekend when midfielder Chris Pontius scored in the last 10 minutes of the game, but the team has not won two games in a row since 2009 (84 matches).

"We are going to Washington to get a result, that's the bottom line," said Impact head coach Jesse Marsch, who began his playing career with United. "D.C. is in good form and they have some dangerous attacking players. We are going in there with a good game plan and the aim to get a result. We will have to remain focused for the full 90 minutes."

Canadian international and D.C. United midfielder Dwayne De Rosario was named the 2011 Volkswagen MLS Most Valuable Player and won the MLS Golden Boot with 16 goals. In four games played against the Impact in Canadian Championship competition while with Toronto FC, the attacking midfielder scored four goals. In 2012, De Rosario has not scored but has tallied three assists.

"He's always a guy that has an impact on the game," said Impact defender Tyson Wahl about De Rosario. "We want to limit his impact as much as possible. He's been one of the top players in the league for some time now. It will be important to put pressure on him and limit his influence on the game."

"There was some space behind their defence last game, so we will try to take advantage of that," said forward Sanna Nyassi, who has played in the first seven games of the season. "We need to create chances. This is a good team that likes to hold the ball a lot. We need to be able to counter their weaknesses and take advantage of mistakes."

Rookie midfielder Nick DeLeon (7th overall in last MLS SuperDraft) has also been a big part of D.C. United's success with two goals and three assists, while forward Maicon Santos tallied seven points so far this season (three goals).

Impact forward Andrew Wenger did not make the trip to D.C. as he was required to stay at Duke for his studies. Defender Jeb Brovksy took his spot in the 18-man roster that made the trip to D.C. The rest of the travelling roster remains the same as the group versus FC Dallas.

Next games

After that road game, the Impact will have a 10-day break, playing its next match on Saturday, April 28, at Olympic Stadium, against the Portland Timbers at 2pm (ET). The organization invites all supporters to join La Garde to "Defend the North."

Game Notes

Three Impact players have played all 630 minutes since the beginning of the season, including goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts, defender Matteo Ferrari and midfielder Felipe.

Goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts is currently second among MLS goalkeepers with 22 saves.

In the last game against FC Dallas, midfielder Justin Mapp reached 15,000 career minutes. Mapp has scored twice versus D.C.

Midfielder Davy Arnaud needs 62 minutes of play to reach 20,000 for his career. He also needs three games to reach 250 career games.

The Montreal Impact is currently first in MLS with 39 shots on goal and 112 fouls committed, while sitting in second place for total shots with 98.

Impact head coach Jesse Marsch began his MLS career with D.C. United, scoring four goals in 15 games between 1996 and 1997.

D.C. United assistant coach Pat Onstad played seven games with the Impact in 1995, in North American second division. He has also represented Canada at the international level, playing 57 games with the National Team.

D.C. United defender Dejan Jakovic was born in Serbia, but raised in Toronto, Ontario. He has represented Canada at the international level 11 times, playing in the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

D.C. United has won four MLS Cups: 1996, 1997, 1999 and 2004.
