ONTARIO, Calf. - NBA G League Ignite (1-18) fell short to the Ontario Clippers (8-9), 110-103, on Wednesday at Toyota Arena in Ontario, Calif.
Ignite was led by John Jenkins with a final stat line of 30 points, seven assists and four rebounds on 11-of-16 shots from the field, including 5-of-8 from the three-point line. Tyler Smith followed with 16 points and six rebounds, while Izan Almansa (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Matas Buzelis (11 points, 10 rebounds) recorded a double-double. Dink Pate added 12 points, three assists and two rebounds.
Xavier Moon paced the Clippers with 27 points, 10 assists, five rebounds and four steals on 10-of-17 shots from the field, including 4-of-8 from behind the arc. Jordan Miller tallied 21 points and three steals, while Armoni Brooks finished with 13 points and four rebounds.
After a stellar first-quarter shooting performance, Ignite pulled out an early five-point advantage (31-26) behind John Jenkins, who scored 17 points in the frame on 6-of-7 shooting from the field, including 2-of-3 from the three-point line. The Clippers outscored Ignite 31-21 in the second quarter after Xavier Moon posted 11 points in the frame to help the Clippers take a five-point lead at the halfway mark (57-52). John Jenkins finished the first half with 24 points, which set an Ignite record for most points in a half. Ignite remained in striking distance heading into the fourth quarter despite facing a 10-point deficit in the frame. The Clippers began the fourth quarter with a 12-3 run after draining four consecutive three-pointers to take a nine-point lead with under nine minutes remaining in regulation. Ignite continued to battle throughout the frame but never overcame its deficit as the Clippers held on to the win.
