EL SEGUNDO, CA - NBA G League Ignite (0-6) faced defeat against the South Bay Lakers (3-3), 134-100, on Saturday at the UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo, Calif.
Ignite was led by Izan Almansa, who recorded his first double-double with a season-high of 22 points and 10 rebounds on 9-of-10 shooting from the field. Ron Holland followed closely behind with 18 points and six rebounds, while Tyler Smith added 15 points, four rebounds and two steals. John Jenkins had a final stat line of 14 points, five rebounds and five assists. Admon Gilder tallied 10 points, six steals, five rebounds, five assists and two blocks.
The Lakers were paced by Scotty Pippen Jr. and Colin Castleton, who finished with 27 points each. Castleton added 12 rebounds and five assists, while Pippen Jr. tallied six rebounds and six assists and two blocks. Byrce Hamilton contributed 22 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Quinndary Weatherspoon posted 21 points and seven rebounds.
The Lakers opened the first quarter on a 12-0 run to take control of the game. Their hot shooting continued as the Lakers shot 66.7 percent from the field, including 60 percent for the three-point line to take a 17-point lead into the second quarter. Ignite struggled mightily from the charity strike in the first half after shooting 3-of-12, resulting in 17 missed points from the free throw line. The Lakers' offensive firepower continued for the remainder of the half en route to taking its largest lead of the first half, 30 points. The Lakers finished with 78 first-half points, which is the most Ignite has given up on the season. Ignite never overcame its deficit as it suffered its sixth consecutive loss.
