Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - The Idaho Steelheads (44-17-2-3) defeated the Utah Grizzlies (32-25-3-5) 5-3 Wednesday night at Maverik Center as Idaho broke a 3-3 third period tie and added a late empty-net goal.

"I thought we deserved a better fate," said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. "We played hard and played our game plan. Unfortunately they're a team that can put the puck in the net. When you give them time and space they can do that."

The Grizzlies battled back from 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 deficits in the game, but were never able to get over the hump.

Idaho led 1-0 after 20 minutes of play, scoring on a five-on-five goal.

Utah tied the game for the first time 3:26 into the second period as Jacob Johnston found Cam Wojtala (5) in front for the goal. Ryan Hayes also picked up an assist.

Then trailing 2-1, H.T. Lenz fed Alex Krushelnyski on a breakaway for his 14th goal of the season 10:53 into the second period.

After Idaho again got the lead back, Ryan Hayes forced a turnover at the blue line and threw the puck in from his knees with Johnnie Searfoss serving as a decoy in front. The goal gave Hayes his 27th of the year and his 17th with Utah since being acquired from Stockton on January 16. The score came with 4:27 left in the period.

Igor Bobkov stopped 19 of 23 in goal for Utah.
