Atlanta Gladiators News Release

DULUTH, Ga. - The Gwinnett Gladiators announced that they have signed forward Daniel Bahntge (pronounced BAN-sha) and defenseman Tyler Shiplo to ECHL contracts on Thursday. Both players just wrapped up their senior seasons with the Mercyhurst Lakers of the Atlantic Hockey Association.

Bahntge, 24, was Mercyhurst's leading scorer in 2014-15, notching nearly a point per game (13g, 23a in 39 gp). The Westlake, Ohio native was named to the AHA Third All-Conference Team for this season. In all, Bahntge tallied 52 goals and 75 assists in 161 collegiate games played.

Shiplo, 23, also played in 39 games for the Lakers this year, scoring four goals and 14 assists with a +6 plus/minus rating. Those totals were second-most among Mercyhurst defensemen this season. The native of Oakville, Ontario has scored 17 goals and 50 assists in his 158 games played in the NCAA.

Bahntge and Shiplo are the second and third Lakers on the Gladiators roster this season, along with forward Dan O'Donoghue, who graduated from the school last year.

To accommodate roster space for Bahntge and Shiplo, forward J.P. Labardo and defenseman C.J. Chartrain were waived on Thursday.

The Gladiators are members of the ECHL, the nation's premier "AA" hockey league, and are affiliated with the Arizona Coyotes of the NHL. All home games are played at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth - where parking is always free.
