Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

The Idaho Falls Chukars defeated the Missoula Osprey 5-4 at Melaleuca Field Thursday night. With the win over Missoula the Chukars won the series 2-1 for the first series win of the second half.

The Chukars bottom of the order carried the team to the victory. In the third inning Malcom Culver reached on an error and then Tom Zebroski doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Culver scored on a Reggie Taylor sacrifice fly and Zebroski came home on a wild pitch. Culver led off the fifth inning with a single and Zebroski hit a single behind him. After a passed ball moved both runners into scoring position, Taylor hit a double to drive in two runs. Taylor would score later in the inning on a Yowill Espinal single.

Number seven hitter Culver went 1-for-4 with two runs scored. Zebroski had a double on a 2-for-4 night in which he scored two runs. Taylor went 2-for-2 with a double, a run scored and three RBIs. Espinal went 3-for-4 with an RBI and Justin Trapp had the only other hit for Idaho Falls.

All of the runs for the Osprey came in the fifth inning. After Missoula scored a run and loaded the bases, Fidel Pena hit a triple and cleared the bases to put the Osprey within one run. There would be no more scoring in that inning or the final three innings.

Greg Billo earned the win to move to 4-6 on the season. Billo pitched five scoreless innings and left the game with two outs and two runners on in the sixth inning. Both of those runners would score and Billo finished with two runs allowed in five and two thirds innings. Billo became the league leader in strikeouts at 72 after retiring a season-high nine batters on strikeouts. After Michael Mariot gave up hits to the first three batters, he K'd four batters while retiring seven straight. Alex Rivers picked up his seventh save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

The Chukars are now 7-18 in the second half and 23-40 overall this season. Friday the Chukars start a four-game series with the Helena Brewers. Game time for the series opener is scheduled for 7:15.
