Rockford IceHogs News Release
Milwaukee, Wis. - With just 3:05 left in regulation, Ryan Hartman finished off a wraparound attempt, sliding the puck under Marek Mazanec to tie the game at 1-1 and force overtime. The goal secured a point for the Rockford IceHogs (9-4-1-2), who eventually fell to the Milwaukee Admirals (10-4-1-0) by a 2-1 score in a shootout at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
The opening frame featured back-and-forth action, but despite the two teams combining for 17 shots on goal, each netminder stood tall to keep the game scoreless going into the second period. The IceHogs nearly broke the scoreless tie midway through the middle stanza, but a shot from Jake Dowell skipped behind Marek Mazanec and through the goalcrease before trickling wide of the net. Frederick Gaudreau broke the draw at 5:04 of the third. Viktor Arvidsson collected a bouncing puck in front of the cage and slid a quick pass to Gaudreau, who fired a one-timer past a sprawling Mark Visentin to put the Admirals up 1-0.
Rockford nearly tied the game with just under 10 minutes to play when Jeremy Morin put the puck in the net, but the officials ruled to was kicked in, preserving the Milwaukee lead.
Hartman's strike with 3:05 remaining in the game finished off a flurry of chances in the final frame for Rockford. Chris DeSousa earned an assist on the tally.
The IceHogs were whistled for a too-many men penalty in overtime, just as they were in the last outing against Milwaukee, but this time were able to kill off the penalty to force a shootout. Gaudreau and Kevin Fiala each scored in the shootout for Milwaukee, while Erik Gustafsson and Garret Ross were both stopped for Rockford.
Visentin finished the game with 32 stops while Mazenec turned aside 28 for the Admials.
Next Home Game: Sunday, Nov. 22 vs. Lake Erie at 4 p.m. The IceHogs face Lake Erie for the first time all season on Stanley Cup Night at the BMO Harris Bank Center. Rockford will celebrate its alumni and the 2015 Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks by displaying the Cup for fans in attendance. Hub Printing will give away 2,500 posters celebrating the Blackhawks championships.
