Louisiana IceGators News Release
Greenville, SC - Alex Materukhin scored two goals and Bobby Brown tallied a goal and two assists to lead the Louisiana IceGators to their 41st win of the year. The IceGators faced-off with the Greenville Grrrowl (10-44-5) for the fourth and final time this season, and capped their 4-0 season record with a 4-1 win. The IceGators (41-16-2) are now eight points ahead of the idle Mississippi Sea Wolves (35-19-6) in the Central Division standings.
Kenny Corupe started the scoring at the 40 second mark of the first period with his 14th goal of the year. Corupe slipped past the Grrrowl defensemen and caught the puck from Milt Mastad. Moving the puck from his forehand to his backhand, Corupe flipped it past Grrrowl netminder Daniel Boisclair. Maxime Fortunus earned the second assist.
Alex Materukhin scored his 22nd of the year, and the eventual game-winner, when he pounced on a rebound of a Bobby Brown shot that he tapped past Boisclair at the 12:21 mark. Ben Storey also assisted on the power play goal.
Brown scored his 32nd goal of the year on the power play, early in the second period. Ben Storey collected the puck from Rod Sarich and blasted it at Daniel Boisclair. The Grrrowl netminder coughed up the rebound to Brown, who lifted the puck over Boisclair for his 14th power play goal of the year.
Alex Materukhin's 23rd goal of the year came when he collected the puck in the corner, walked to the front of the net and slid the puck under Boisclair and across the line. Bobby Brown and Ed McGrane were awarded helpers on the goal.
Derek Gustafson's shutout bid was spoiled by Michael Chin at the 14:14 mark of the second, when Chin beat him with a rebound shot. The third period would remain goalless as the IceGators held on to their 3-goal lead for the final 20 minutes.
The IceGators threw 36 shots on Boisclair, while Gustafson fended off 20 of 21 Grrrowl shots.
The IceGators continue their tour of the Eastern Conference on Tuesday, March 9 at 6:05 p.m. The next home game for the Gators is Wednesday, March 17 against the Columbus Cottonmouths. The St. Patty's Day game, rescheduled from January 4th, will feature a costume contest and $2 green beer. Anyone wearing green will also receive $2 off their ticket at the Cajundome box office.
