Brusseau Steals the Show
March 7, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release
FRESNO, Calif. â Behind 39 saves from goaltender Mike Brusseau and a goal from Kris Porter, the Fresno Falcons defeated the Las Vegas Wranglers on Sunday, 1-0, in front of 3,561 at Save Mart Center.
The teams were scoreless through the first 20 minutes as Brusseau made 13 stops and his counterpart for the Wranglers, Dany Sabourin, made 10.
Mid-way through the second, just a couple of minutes after Brusseau stoned first Cam Bristow on a clean break-away and then Chris Kenady, who walked in alone down the slot, Jason Weaver and Porter headed up ice on a two-on-two. Weaver found Porter at the far post, who was stopped initially by Sabourin before banging home the rebound for his 14th of the year at 8:56.
The one tally was all Brusseau needed. He becomes the first netminder to secure a shutout in Save Mart Center history and notches his team's first since the opening day of the season when Nolan Schaefer blanked the Bakersfield Condors, 3-0, at Centennial Garden.
The win lifts the Falcons to 18-35-6 on the year and avenges a last-minute, 1-0 loss to the Wranglers a week ago in Las Vegas.
Fresno returns to the ice on Friday and Saturday, March 12 and 13, when they battle the Pacific Division-leading San Diego Gulls at the San Diego Sports Arena. Friday's game can be heard live on KAAT 103.1 FM at 7:20 p.m. beginning with the Shop & Go Pre-game Show followed by Saturday's broadcast, which gets underway at 6:50 p.m.
