Oshawa Generals News Release
St. Catharines - A 54 save performance from Daniel Altshuller wasn't quite enough on Saturday night. Oshawa fell 5-3 to Niagara before a crowd of 3,145 at the Gatorade Garden City Complex in St. Catharines. Tied 2-2 at the start of the third, the IceDogs scored 3 straight goals and took control of the game. Though Niagara's power play was only 1/8, Oshawa's time spent in the box limited their forecheck and ultimately hurt their chances. With the win, Niagara now leads the series 3-2. Oshawa will attempt to avoid elimination tomorrow night, Sunday April 1st, in Game 6 at the General Motors Centre. Puck drops at 6:05 PM. The first period produced a flurry of action; both teams struck once, exiting the frame tied, 1-1. Andrew Agozzino scored first at 3:22 for Niagara, followed by a goal from Matt Petgrave on the power play less than 2 minutes later. Niagara recaptured the lead in the second when Myles Doan made it 2-1 IceDogs. At 16:15, Oshawa answered with a goal from Julian Melchiori, tying the game, 2-2. In the third period, Niagara's high shot total finally got results. Carter Verhaeghe solved Altshuller at 1:30, Ryan Strome added at 2:30 and again later on the power play, putting the IceDogs up 5-2. Jensen scored for Oshawa at 15:05, but the margin was too much to overcome, Niagara finished with the 5-3 win. Carter Verhaeghe, Myles Doan and Daniel Altshuller were the three star selections. Shots favoured Niagara 59-25. The Generals are back home to battle Niagara tomorrow night, Sunday April 1st, for Game 6 of their Eastern Conference Quarter Final. Puck drops at 6:05 PM. Come cheer on the Generals as they attempt to push this series to a Game 7.
