Spirit Defeat Sting 3-1 to Win First Round Series

On Saturday night, the Saginaw Spirit returned home to The Dow Event Center to take on the Sting in game 6 of their first round series. The Spirit would defeat the Sting and win the series by a score of 3-1. Scoring for Spirit was spread out amongst two players: Justin Kea, Vince Trocheck, and Michael Fine. Jake Paterson would have 34 saves in net for the Spirit.

11:18 in the opening period, Justin Kea would steal the puck short handed and score on a breakaway to put the Spirit up 1-0. Steven Strong would get credit for the assist on the goal.

The start of the second period would remain a constant battle between the two teams. At the 14:01 mark, Vincent Trocheck would tap in a wrist shot to put the Spirit up 2-0. Brandon Archibald and Dalton Young would assist the goal. The Spirit would remain on top heading into the third period.

At 3:11 of the third period, Reid Boucher would get Sarnia on the board, sliding a shot past Spirit goalie, Jake Paterson. Charles Sarault would get credit for the assist. The Spirit would answer back quickly, reclaiming at two-goal lead when Michael Fine would tap in a rebound off a shot from Josh Shalla. Vincent Trocheck would get credit for the second assist. Saginaw would kill off a Sarnia two-man advantage late in the third to hold on for the 3-1 win over the Sting. With the win, the Spirit advance to the second round of the playoffs.
