Niagara IceDogs News Release
Niagara, ON - The Niagara IceDogs will be hosting a blood drive in honour of Tucker Tynan at the St. Catharines Blood Donor Clinic on Tuesday, January 28th from 3:00-7:00pm.
On December 12th, 2019, Tucker Tynan was badly injured in an on-ice accident against the London Knights. At the time of the accident, his injuries were considered life threatening. He underwent emergency surgery to repair a lacerated thigh muscle that night, and was in stable condition come morning. He received blood during surgery to help replenish his body of the 5 units he lost during the accident. Tucker has since returned home to Chicago for recovery. On January 9th, he underwent a successful surgery to ensure his muscle was reattaching properly. Tucker is expected to return to Niagara within 6-8 weeks to begin rehabilitation.
Over half of Canadians will either need or will know someone who will need blood throughout their lifetime, according to Canadian Blood Services website. Blood donation helped to save Tucker's life. The Niagara IceDogs want to help save other lives in the Niagara Region, and help drive more blood donation.
"The Niagara IceDogs are thankful to our region's blood donors, who helped to save Tucker's life." Said IceDogs owner Bill Burke. "We've all seen the advertisements explaining the need for more blood, but when someone you know and care about is in need, it hits closer to home. We are hoping this blood drive, in honour of Tucker, will help many others in our community who need or will need blood in the future".
Those who donate blood between 3:00-7:00pm on Tuesday, January 28th will receive a $2 ticket voucher to any upcoming Niagara IceDogs home game.
