Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs dropped a 4-3 shootout loss to the Barrie Colts on Saturday night.

Andrew Agozzino continued recent his hot play, tallying a shorthanded goal to open the scoring. The OHL's leading scorer, Tanner Pearson, would reply for the Colts to even the score at 1-1. Mitchell Theoret responded for Niagara, scoring his third goal in the past two games, to give the IceDogs a 2-1 lead heading into the break. Mark Visentin made 11 saves in the period.

Ryan Strome would increase the IceDogs lead to 3-1 with a goal 1:33 into the second period. Freddie Hamilton collected the lone assist on the goal. Barrie would come back to tie the game at 3-3 on goals by Ivan Telegin and Greg Sutch, and the score would remain that way heading into the second intermission.

In the third, neither team was able to solve the opposing netminder, as Visentin and Mathias Niederberger blanked their opponents. Tied at 3-3 after regulation, the game would require overtime.

Both teams exchanged scoring chances, but overtime would solve nothing, sending the game to a shootout. In the shootout, Mark Scheifele and Gregg Sutch converted for Barrie, while Agozzino was the only IceDog to beat Niederbeger, giving the Colts the 4-3 victory.

The Niagara IceDogs next home game is Saturday, December 10th vs. the Kingston Frontenacs, which is also the Teddy Bear Toss game. We encourage all fans to bring out new or gently used teddy bears to throw onto the ice after the Niagara IceDogs first goal of the game.

Also, a reminder that this Monday, December 5th is the final vote regarding the new spectator facility. We encourage all fans to show their support by attending the council meeting, which starts at 6:30pm.
