Niagara IceDogs News Release
Andrew Agozzino led the Niagara IceDogs to a 5-3 victory by scoring four of the five goals in a thrilling battle between the âDogs and the Ottawa 67's in front of a sold out crowd of 3,145 at the Gatorade Garden City Complex Saturday night.
Dougie Hamilton played an incredible game also as he picked up 4 assists, while David Pacan and Alex Friesen each had multi-point games to help lead the IceDogs to victory. Mark Visentin was another key factor for Niagara as he stopped 22 shots.
After both teams traded some quality scoring chances in the early stages of the first period, Ottawa was the first to capitalize as leading goal scorer Tyler Toffoli took a shot from the top of the circle that beat Visentin glove side to notch his 20th of the year, giving the 67's a 1-0 lead.
The IceDogs tied it up at the 11:31 mark as Dougie Hamilton jumped up into the rush and patiently waited to make the perfect pass to Andrew Agozzino, who made no mistake in snapping the puck in and giving the game a tying score of 1-1.
The 67's regained their lead with just 3:26 left in the first as Ryan Martindale tipped a point shot past Visentin to make it 2-1.
However, the 67's lead wouldn't last long as Andrew Agozzino notched his second of the game late in the first to tie it up for Niagara, while David Pacan picked up his second assist of the night on the play.
The two teams would head into the first intermission with the game at a 2-2 tie.
The second period action started off quickly as Myles Doan gave a solid effort to pick up his third goal of the season and give the 'Dogs a 3-2 lead.
The 'Dogs struck again at the 16:09 mark of the second as Andrew Agozzino potted his hat-trick goal on the power play to give Niagara a 4-2 lead. Alex Friesen and Dougie Hamilton picked up the assists on the play.
The 67's managed to cut the 'Dogs lead with just 3.8 seconds left in the second as Ryan Martindale notched his second goal of the game, making it 4-3 IceDogs after 40 minutes.
Andrew Agozzino continued to play an exceptional game for Niagara as he opened the third period scoring with his fourth goal of the game to increase the IceDogs lead to 5-3.
Ottawa pulled their goaltender during the last minute of play in efforts to tie the game, but Niagara held them off and picked up a well deserved 5-3 win.
The IceDogs will now begin to prepare for next weekend's two game road trip as they take a turn visiting the Ottawa 67's on Friday, Nov. 26, before facing the Belleville Bulls next Sunday afternoon at 2:05 p.m.
