The Saginaw Spirit defeated the London Knights 4-1 Saturday night at The Dow Event Center of Saginaw, capping off a three game weekend with two wins and an overtime loss netting the team five more points in the standings. The Spirit lead the OHL Western Conference with 37 points and a record of 17-4-2-1. On the ice, Spirit forwards Josh Shalla and Vincent Trocheck each accounted for two goals, while goalie Mavric Parks posted 27 saves on 28 shots.

The Spirit jumped to a two goal lead in the opening frame. Winger Josh Shalla started the game with a power play goal at 8:35 in the first courtesy assists from winger Michael Kantor and defenseman Peter Hermenegildo. Vincent Trocheck followed suit, notching a power play goal at the 16:23 mark with assists going to Shalla and defenseman Ryan O'Connor.

The man-advantage continued to pay dividends for the Spirit, and at 12:15 in the second period Saginaw moved the score to 3-0 after Trocheck tallied his second of the night. Winger Brandon Saad and Shalla assisted on the goal, Trocheck's twelfth of the season. The Knights were down but not out, and London blueliner Michael Moffat broke the potential shutout and moved the score to 3-1 at 16:20 in the second after scoring from winger Dane Fox. The Spirit answered quickly however, with Shalla scoring at the 17:55 mark from center Mathew Sisca and defenseman Frank Schumacher. Saginaw clamped down and contained the Knights for the remainder of the contest, securing the 4-1 victory in regulation.

Spirit netminder Mavric Parks tallied 27 saves on 28 shots, while Knights goalie Igor Bobkov notched 33 saves on 37 shots.
