IceDogs Fall to Rangers 6-3 in Final Pre-Season Game
September 15, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs played their third consecutive pre-season game tonight in Beamsville in front of a full, loud, and local crowd.
The 'Dogs were without Ben Jones, Akil Thomas, Ivan Lodnia, Daniel Bukac, and Kirill Maksimov, who have been named to their respective NHL teams' training camp rosters.
The Rangers scored to take the early 1-0 lead. The 'Dogs pressed hard for an equalizer as the period wore on but the Rangers goalie stood tall. Nearing the dying minutes of the period, Stephen Dhillon made a huge sprawling glove save to rob a Ranger from what would have been considered a sure-goal.
Midway through the second period, rookie forward Jake Uberti tied the game up at 1! Matthew Philip and Andrew Bruder picked up the assists on Uberti's goal. Just a few minutes later, birthday boy Oliver Castleman scored the go-ahead goal off a tip from from a shot by Elijah Roberts. Kitchener replied with three goals of their own to tie the game, and to take the 4-2 lead.
The Rangers scored in the first half of the third period to extend their lead to 5, but it was Philip Tomasino who scored to cut their lead to 2. Tomasino's tally was assisted by Kyen Sopa and Billy Constantinou. Through the rest of the third period, the IceDogs continued to press, giving the Rangers all they could handle in their own zone. The 'Dogs couldn't get any pucks past the Rangers netminder. The Rangers added another goal with just over a minute remaining in the game.
The IceDogs fell to the Rangers by a score of 6-3.
We're back in action next Sunday as we open the season in Mississauga against the Steelheads in a Sunday matinee game. We're home on September 28th as we host the Kingston Frontenacs in our first game.
