IceDogs Fall to London 2-1 Ending Best Season in Franchise History
May 11, 2012 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs fell to the London Knights 2-1 in Game Five of the OHL Championship Series, losing the series 4-1 and bringing to an end the most successful season in franchise history.
The goaltenders were the story in the first period, as they have been for much of the series, as both Mark Visentin and Michael Houser made some big saves to keep things scoreless after one. Shots in the period were even at seven apiece.
The second period saw the goaltenders continue their strong play keeping the game scoreless until London was able to push one by Visentin with 7:26 remaining in the second. That would prove to be the only goal of the period as the teams headed to the third with London hanging on to the 1-0 lead. Shots after 40 favoured the IceDogs 18-17.
An unfortunate break early in the third period would lead to a second London goal as the IceDogs fell behind 2-0 just two minutes into the period. Tom Kuhnhackl would jam one in, in front to answer back with just over 12 minutes to go in the third, cutting the IceDogs deficit to 2-1. The IceDogs would continue to press for the tying goal throughout the rest of the period, but it was not meant to be as the game ended in a 2-1 final. Final shots were 27-22 in favour of Niagara.
The entire IceDogs organization would like to thank their fans for what was an amazing season of IceDogs hockey and we look forward to seeing you all back at the Gatorade Garden City Complex in the fall!
