Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs returned home Sunday afternoon for a matinee game against the Windsor Spitfires. These two teams last faced each other mid-February where the 'Dogs fell to Windsor 2-0, so the 'Dogs were looking to even out the season series score. Coming into this afternoons' game, the Spitfires had won 2 of their last 5 games, most recently a 4-3 loss to the Otters. While, the IceDogs had won 3 of their last 5 games, including a 5-3 win last night in Hamilton.

The first period was a fast-paced start to the game, but neither team was able to break the goose egg. Danial Singer was buzzing around the net getting multiple good chances that just didn't make their way past Michael DiPietro.

The second period had a much different start, and feel to it. After failing to score on a powerplay to start the period, Sam Miletic scored his team-leading 35th goal to take the lead! Miletic's shot from the faceoff circle beat DiPietro blocker side. Our first goal of the game was assisted by Matthew Philip and Akil Thomas. Three minutes later, Miletic struck again, scoring his 2nd goal of the game off a rebound. Akil Thomas picked up his 2nd point of the game with the assist on the goal that doubled our lead. On a 5 on 3 powerplay nearing the end of the period, Akil Thomas netted his 2nd consecutive powerplay goal to extend our lead to 3. Ben Jones and Kirill Makismov were credited with the assists. Heading into the 3rd period, we held a 3-0 lead.

The Spitfires broke the shutout early in the 3rd period and added another goal with 5 minutes remaining in the 3rd period. The 3-2 score held as the 'Dogs defeated the Windsor Spitfires.

The 'Dogs are back in action, at home, on Thursday as the Hamilton Bulldogs come to town. You won't want to miss this one, as the K-9 Cup will be awarded to the IceDogs, who have won the series, with 9 points.
