67's Close Weekend with 5-1 Loss to Mississauga

OTTAWA, ON - A grueling weekend schedule caught up with the Ottawa 67's Sunday afternoon. They dropped the final game of a three-in-three, 5-1 to the visiting Mississauga Steelheads.

The loss allows the Steelheads to leapfrog Ottawa into seventh position in the OHL's eastern conference. The two teams are tied in points, but Mississauga has more wins, which hands them the tiebreaker.

Mississauga got off to a good start early in the game and didn't look back from there. They scored all five of their goals unanswered, beginning with three in the opening frame. That included a shorthanded goal by Ryan McLeod.

Ottawa's lone goal came in the third, when Merrick Rippon banked a shot in from the left corner at 7:12.

The 67's now have three games remaining on their schedule. They will hit the road for one final time next weekend to play in Barrie and Mississauga, before returning home for the regular season finale on March 18.

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING

On playing with emotion... "On Friday when Kingston took an early lead, we started to be very aggressive and the guys were very high. We took bad penalties and we reacted. So the frustration level was very high. I think in a game you have to have a certain level of emotion, and if you're too high you lose control. Today the level of emotion we need wasn't there."

GAME NOTES

This was Ottawa's first loss to the Steelheads all season, after the 67's were victorious in the first two games between them.

Merrick Rippon's goal came against his former team in Mississauga - the Ottawa native was traded to the Barber Poles on January 1.

The 67's have given up 24 goals in their last four games, including five goals in each of the last two games.

Ottawa had not lost by 4+ goals since January 21 until this weekend.
