January 29, 2010 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs were overcome in a shootout as the Erie Otters took a 2-1 win at home Friday night.

Greg McKegg was the first to score at the 7:27 mark of the period, giving Erie a 1-0 lead.

Shortly after the goal, IceDogs rookie Mitchell Theoret got into the fisticuffs with Stephen Genua of the Otters in efforts to get the IceDogs bench going.

The two teams would exchange several scoring chances but the score remained at 1-0 in Erie's favour after twenty minutes.

Reggie Traccitto got the Dogs back in the game early in the second as he scored his 15th of the season, unassisted, at the 4:55 mark.

The rest of the second was rather slow; Erie took a minor penalty for crosschecking, and the IceDogs put a few pucks to the net on the power play, but the score remained at a 1-1 tie going into the second intermission.

The third period was blank as well, with both teams getting plenty of shots, but both goaltenders putting up a flawless effort.

The game would go into overtime with a score of 1-1 after three periods. The overtime period was also scoreless, and the game went into a shootout.

The first 10 shooters were stopped by the respective goalies, who were both phenomenal throughout the entire game.

Erie defender Derek Holden was the first and only player to score in the shootout, as he managed to send a trickling puck past Visentin to get the extra point for the Otters.

The game was a goaltenders battle with a 39-34 shot advantage going to the Erie Otters.

Niagara continued to close in on the Brampton Battalion by gained one point in the match-up. The IceDogs will return home Sunday and hope for another two points as they face Doug Gilmour and the physical Kingston Frontenacs with a 2:00 p.m. puck drop. Tickets for this and all other IceDogs home games are available at any IceDogs ticketing location.
