Saginaw Spirit News Release

(Saginaw, MI) The Saginaw Spirit held a special ceremonial puck drop Thursday evening at The Dow Event Center to recognize Garrett Geer, one of the people responsible for securing The Dow Chemical Company's naming rights sponsorship for The Dow Event Center. Geer was recently promoted and named Dow's Director of Government and Public Affairs for the Middle East and Africa, leaving the Great Lakes Bay Region a better place 'to live, work and play' thanks to his tireless efforts and devotion to better the region.

"What made my decision challenging was leaving all of the great people; the friends I've made in the Great Lakes Bay Region," stated Geer at Thursday's Spirit game. "The work, the play, the entertainment like the Saginaw Spirit; all these relationships will make it hard to leave. I can find comfort knowing it's a termed assignment of two to three years, but also in the fact that I can bring that international experience and new ideas back to the Great Lakes Bay Region."

Geer has left an enormous positive mark on the Great Lakes Bay Region, including but not limited to launching Dow's North American Association with Habitat for Humanity International and being awarded the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce's President's Award for Community Service Excellence.

His professional accolades include being a two time recipient of Dow's Pinnacle Award for Sales Excellence and a recipient of the Dow SCRIBE award for communications and media excellence. He was a 2005 graduate of the prestigious Leadership Michigan program.

"A few years back, I thanked Garrett for doing something very special for our community," stated Saginaw Spirit President and Partner Craig Goslin, "His response was - 'Your Welcome Goose! What do we live for if not to make life better and less difficult for each other and the region that we live in.' - That statement pretty much sums up Garrett Geer. He has left a positive mark on the Great Lakes Bay Region and we honor him not only for what he has done for us, but also for the quality of the person that he is. We wish Garrett and his terrific wife Ashley all the best in their new home in Dubai and look forward to their future return back to the Great Lakes Bay Region."

Said Geer, "I have always believed in a quote from Peter Drucker - the best way to predict the future is to create it".

The Saginaw Spirit and The Dow Event Center wish Geer the best of luck in his new assignment and thank him for all of his efforts in bettering not just the region, but the Saginaw Spirit project.
