Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release
Mississauga, ON- The Barrie Colts emerged victorious in the battle between Eastern Conference powerhouses tonight at the Hershey Centre, 4-0. The loss drops the Majors to 33-11-4-1 on the season; and marks the first time they have been shutout on home ice this season.
The teams battled back-and-forth throughout the period but it would be Barrie picking up a goal late in the period. After a questionable slashing call on Ryan Lopes the Colts went on a five-on-three power play and Bryan Cameron converted making it 1-0. Taylor Carnevale passed to Cameron who was waiting out in front, Cameron's shot beat a diving Chris Carrozzi. The 1-0 scoreline stood into the first intermission.
Barrie extended the lead to 2-0 with a second period goal from Alexander Burmistrov. Bryan Cameron would inflict more damage in the third, scoring twice to complete the hat-trick and make it 4-0 for Barrie. Carrozzi was behind the net as the Majors failed to clear the puck, from there Cameron took a shot while diving to beat Carrozzi. His third goal was a rocket shot that beat JP Anderson. Anderson replaced Carrozzi in the Mississauga goal shortly after the third Barrie goal was scored. The period ended with the teams exchanging penalties to close out a rough affair.
Mavric Parks stopped all 23 shots to earn his second shutout of the season. Carrozzi and Anderson combined for 17 saves for the Majors; Carrozzi takes the loss. T.J. Brodie had two assists for Barrie.
The Majors will be in action again on Sunday when they host the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds at 2:00 p.m. Sunday also marks "South Asian Heritage Day." The event includes live performances during and after the game. For more information or to purchase tickets contact the Majors office at (905) 502-7788 x.252.
