The Niagara IceDogs dropped a tough 5-3 decision to the Kitchener Rangers in Kitchener on Sunday afternoon.

The IceDogs got off to just the start they were looking for as Brendan Perlini would get the visitors on the board with a great individual effort, picking up his first goal as an IceDog on the powerplay to make it 1-0 only 2:58 in. Brent Moran would be would be on his game and would be solid in the period to keep the IceDogs lead at 1-0 after one. Shots after one favoured Niagara 15-12.

While the IceDogs would head into the second with the lead, it would unfortunately not last long as Kitchener would score only 1:41 in to tie things up at 1-1. The IceDogs would answer right back however, as Luke Mercer would put home the IceDogs second powerplay goal of the game to make it 2-1 IceDogs. The IceDogs would not let up as Mike Robinson would add an unassisted goal at the 13:34 mark of the period to give the IceDogs a 3-1 lead, which they would carry into the third period. Shots after two were 28-22 Kitchener.

The third period would see Kitchener score 3:35 in to cut the IceDogs lead to 3-2. The IceDogs lead would then be gone completely at the 8:19 mark of the third as the Rangers would tie things up at 3-3. Kitchener would then score only 18 seconds after tying things to take their first lead of the game at 4-3. The IceDogs would push for the equalizer, but it was not to be as Kitchener would add an empty net goal to make it a 5-3 final. Final shots were 45-30 in favour of Kitchener as Moran was solid for the IceDogs in the loss.

The IceDogs will next return to action on Friday night when they play host to the visiting Belleville Bulls in front of a national television audience on Sportsnet's Friday Night Hockey. They will follow that up by playing host to the visiting Peterborough Petes on Saturday night at the Gatorade Garden City Complex.
