Oshawa Generals News Release

Oshawa, Ontario - 3 first period goals were too much for the Generals to overcome in Oshawa on Sunday afternoon. Oshawa fell 3-1 to the Windsor Spitfires before a crowd of 5,593 at the General Motors Centre. Scott Sabourin scored the lone marker for Oshawa in the loss.

Windsor dominated the opening frame, outshooting Oshawa 13-6 on their way to a 3-0 lead. The Spitfires struck immediately, needing just 10 seconds to solve Oshawa's starting goaltender, Daniel Altshuller. Taking advantage of a 2-man-break, Kerby Rychel one-touched a pass from Alex Aleardi for his 24th, making it 1-0.

The Spits doubled their lead at 12:38 with Ben Johnson one-timing his 12th past Altshuller from the goaltender's doorstep. Windsor clicked again at 18:38 on the power play. Left alone out front, Alexander Khokhlachev threaded his 3rd blocker side, putting Windsor up 3-0.

Oshawa came close late in the frame with Geoffrey Schemitsch hitting the post, but Spits' goaltender, Jaroslav Pavelka, remained perfect, sending Windsor into the second with a stranglehold on the game.

The second was an even-strength, scoreless period. The Generals were much more defensively sound, but couldn't find a hole in Pavelka's armour. Altshuller made a sparkling glove-hand save on Aleardi late in the frame, keeping the deficit at 3.

The Generals finally got on the scoreboard in the third, breaking Pavelka's shutout bid at the 4:29 mark. Veteran Scott Sabourin roofed his 17th just under the crossbar after a perfect pass from Brian Hughes sprung him free.

But that was it for Oshawa, as Pavelka made brilliant stops on Sabourin and Cassels on the road to a 29 save performance.

Oshawa outshot Windsor 30-25.

Tyler Biggs was named the hardest working player of the game, while Scott Sabourin picked up the second star selection for his lone goal effort.

The Generals hit the road this Thursday January 17th to take on the Colts in Barrie. Start time is 7:30 PM, and the game can be seen live on Rogers TV Durham.

Oshawa's next home game is this Saturday January 19th when they take on the divisional-rival Kingston Frontenacs at the General Motors Centre in Oshawa. Puck drops at 7:05 PM.
