
IceDogs Defeat Colts 4-1; Now Tied for Eastern Conference Lead

The Niagara IceDogs finished their weekend by defeating the Barrie Colts 4-1 on Saturday night, passing the Brampton Battalion for the Central Division lead and moving into a tie with the Ottawa 67's for the Eastern Conference lead.
The IceDogs jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead on a goal by Alex Friesen, his 15th of the season, just 38 seconds into the first period. Jesse Graham and David Pacan drew the assists on the goal.
Niagara would hold the lead until the final minute of the period, when Barrie would score to tie up the game with 44 seconds to go.
The IceDogs outshot the Colts 17-4 in the opening frame.
Niagara would retake the lead midway through the second period on a powerplay goal by defenceman Dougie Hamilton. Tom Kuhnhackl and Ryan Strome received the assists, extending their points streaks one more game.
Two minutes later, the IceDogs would stretch the lead to 3-1 as Myles Doan would find the back of the net. Friesen and Pacan would record their second points of the night with assists on the play.
Mark Visentin turned aside seven shots in the period to keep the Colts off the board.
Niagara continued to pile on the goals in the third period, with Kuhnhackl scoring on a breakaway just past the halfway mark. He now has seven points in five games since returning to the IceDogs lineup.
The IceDogs' strong defensive play held the Colts off the board for the remainder of the game, securing the 4-1 victory.
Visentin made a total of 20 saves to earn his 14th win of the season.
The Niagara IceDogs next game is Friday, January 20th when they travel to Erie to face the Otters.
