Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs finished a two-game road trip with a 4-1 win over the Belleville Bulls Sunday afternoon at the Yardmen Arena.
Ryan Strome, Andrew Agozzino and Alex Friesen all continued to produce offensively as the each picked up a goal, while Dougie Hamilton played another stellar two-way game by adding a goal and two assists. Mark Visentin also continued to show why he is the starting goaltender as he stopped 17 of 18 shots to lead the 'Dogs to victory.
The IceDogs opened the scoring at the 11:55 mark of the first period as Freddie Hamilton made a perfect pass into the slot for Ryan Strome, who made no mistake in snapping the puck past Bulls netminder Tyson Teichmann to give Niagara a 1-0 lead.
The remainder of the period was scoreless, but the 'Dogs led in shots 11-7 and went into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead.
It would take over half of the second period before Niagara could notch another goal. This time Dougie Hamilton gave a solid individual effort to carry the puck from the blue line and cut into the slot, backhanding the puck past Teichmann to put the IceDogs up 2-0.
Belleville answered back at the 16:24 mark as Andy Bathgate beat Mark Visentin to cut the IceDogs lead to 2-1, and the score would remain so going into the second intermission.
Niagara began the third period with a fast pace as Alex Friesen managed to get his stick on an Andrew Agozzino shot and deflect the puck into the net to regain their two goal lead. Dougie Hamilton also picked up an assist on the play, giving him three points on the night.
Things just kept getting worse for the Bulls in the third as Andrew Agozzino managed to poke in a loose puck during a scrum in front of the Belleville net to pick up his second point of the game (17th goal of the season).
Although it wasn't clear if the puck had in fact passed the goal line right away, after going upstairs for video review, it was determined the goal was good and Niagara took a 4-1 lead at the 7:47 mark of the third.
With a commanding three goal lead late in the third, the IceDogs were able to keep the pressure on and the puck out of their zone, allowing them to pick up a 4-1 victory over the Belleville Bulls in the Sunday afternoon battle.
The IceDogs will now prepare for a busy three game weekend beginning this Thursday, Dec. 2 as they visit the Windsor Spitfires at 7:05 p.m., before visiting the Sarnia Sting on Friday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. The 'Dogs will then return home to host the Kitchener Rangers on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Gatorade Garden City Complex.
Tickets for Saturday's game are still available, and as always, can be purchased at one of the many IceDogs ticketing locations. For more information, please contact the IceDogs office at 905-687-DOG1.
