Niagara IceDogs News Release
Peterborough, Ont. (Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007) - The Mississauga IceDogs traveled to Peterborough this evening in search of their fourth straight win. Unfortunately, despite the fact that they fired 42 shots at Petes netminder Trevor Cann, they were only able to score twice and had to swallow a 5-2 loss. The defeat pushes their record to 28-16-0-2 on the season.
The two teams played a scoreless 1st period, with the Petes outshooting the IceDogs 13-11. Then, the Peterborough offence started to click in the middle frame. At the 0:58 mark, Justin Soryal's power-play tally, off of Branislav Rehus and Zach Bogosian passes, made it 1-0 for the home squad. Then, Pat Daley's man-advantage marker at 10:59, off of another Bogosian feed, made it 2-0.
Soryal connected again, this time unassisted, 2:48 into the 3rd period. However, the IceDogs got on the board when Chris Lawrence scored for the fourth consecutive game to make it a 3-1 affair. The assists were credited to Jadran Beljo and Kyle Lamb.
Unfortunately, the Petes added a couple more goals to put the game out of reach. Daley lit the lamp at 12:57 and Rehus notched a shorthanded tally at 14:00. Michael Swift provided a power-play goal for the IceDogs 1:29 later, but that's as close as they could get. The final assists on these three goals were credited to Bogosian, Soryal, Yves Bastien and Zach Harnden of the Petes and Lamb and Josh Day of the IceDogs.
Andrew Loverock offset Cann's 42 saves with 28 stops for Mississauga. The IceDogs were 2 for 6 on the power-play while the Petes were 2 for 5. The game's three stars were Soryal (1st), Bogosian (2nd) and Cann (3rd).
The IceDogs will now return home for a pair of games to finish the weekend. They host the Sarnia Sting tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. and the Kingston Frontenacs on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
