Niagara IceDogs News Release

The Niagara IceDogs were defeated 3-0 by the Brampton Battalion Sunday afternoon at the PowerAde Centre, giving the 'Dogs a record of 38-15-2-4.

Although the first period was scoreless, the action wasn't limited as Victor Terreri and Zach Bell dropped the mitts for what proved to be a spirited tilt with both players landing several punches before taking each other to the ice.

The Battalion opened the scoring at the 15:02 mark of the second period as Philip Lane sped into the IceDogs zone and with some space, let a howitzer of a shot go from the top of the circle to beat Mark Visentin and give his team a 1-0 lead in front of their home crowd.

Brampton would take the 1-0 lead into the second intermission.

Lane would kick things off once again in the third period as he picked up his second of the game just 1:17 in to put them up 2-0.

Michael Santini then capitalized on a power play as he tipped in a shot from Marcus McIvor. The play was reviewed to ensure it was not a high-stick, and the video judges agreed with the Battalion and they took a 3-0 lead early in the third.

More rough stuff occurred after Dougie Hamilton laid a massive hit on Sam Carrick. No fights broke out but the two teams were given coincidental minor penalties, bringing the play to four-on-four.

Nothing became of the four-on-four, and although the IceDogs killed off another minor penalty late in the third and pulled Visentin in efforts to convert, they couldn't beat Cody St. Jacques and the Battalion took a 3-0 victory over the 'Dogs on home ice.

The IceDogs will return to action this Wednesday, March 2 as they travel to Erie for a rematch against the Erie Otters at 7 p.m.
