Mississauga St. Michael's Majors News Release

Mississauga, ON - The Majors and Bulls faced off for their second match up in 24 hours this afternoon at the Hershey Centre. It was a physical game from start to finish but the Majors controlled the play for most of the afternoon, and rebounded with a 6-1 victory.

The Majors seemed determined to make a statement early in the game, putting all kinds of pressure on the Bulls. The pressure paid off just over a minute in when Justin Shugg scored a beautiful goal to give the Majors the lead. Dylan DeMelo and Casey Cizikas had the assists. Mississauga just kept coming at the Bulls but the score remained 1-0. They did a good job of shutting down the Bulls offense as well, as it took almost nine minutes for the Belleville to record their first shot on goal. At 11:44, Shugg extended the Mississauga lead with his second goal of the game. After Cizikas flew past the Belleville defender and put a shot on Teichmann, Shugg put the rebound in five hole to make it 2-0 Mississauga. Cizikas and Smith-Pelly had the assists. Despite outshooting the Bulls by a large margin, Belleville stayed in the game with a goal on just their second shot of the day. That shot came at 16:52 when Adam Payerl passed the puck across the front of the Majors net, where Andy Bathgate was waiting to knock the puck in, cutting the Majors lead in half. At the end of one, Mississauga was dominating in shots on goal, with a 13-3 lead, but led the game by a slim 2-1 margin.

The physical play picked up in the second period with two fights, and plenty of rough play. The Majors did not ignore the offensive side of things though, with three goals in the period. The first came courtesy of Michael D'Orazio at 1:54 when he scored his 11th goal of the season. After Jordan Mayer rang a shot off the post, D'Orazio received the rebound and blasted the puck home to make it 3-1 Majors. Mayer and Shugg had the assists. The next goal came from Jamie Wise, just his third goal of the season. Joe Cramarossa broke in on the Belleville net, and almost lost the puck as he appeared to lose his balance. After he regained control, Cramarossa managed to get a shot on Teichmann. While Teichmann made the initial save, he did give up a rebound that Wise put in the back of the net, making it 4-1 Mississauga. The final goal of the second period was not pretty for the Bulls. After the Majors killed off a two man advantage, they were still short handed as Chris DeSousa was serving a double minor for high sticking. David Corrente cleared the puck down the ice from the Majors goal line. The puck bounced off the boards in the Belleville zone, hit Teichmann, and found its way into the back of the net. The goal made it 5-1 Mississauga as the period came to a close. Shots on goal in the second period were 12-7, also in favour of the Majors.

The third period began with a new goalie in net for Belleville as Malcolm Subban stepped in for Teichmann. The final frame was not nearly as eventful as the first two. The Majors began the period by killing off another five on three after penalties from Demelo and Corrente. Then shortly after at 6:26 of the period, Stuart Percy followed up a Mayer blast along the ice and backhanded a shot past the blocker arm of Subban to put the Majors up 6-1. That would prove to be the final score. The Majors outshot Belleville 12-9 in the third period.

JP Anderson was in net once again for the Majors and made 18 saves on 19 shots in the victory. Tyson Teichmann got the start in net again for Belleville, but he only lasted two periods, making 20 saves on 25 shots. Malcolm Subban replaced him in the third period, and made 11 saves on 12 shots in relief. The games three stars were Flemming (3rd), Cizikas (2nd) and Shugg (1st).
